Written permission first
In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, we only give a medicine (prescription or non-prescription) when we have your written permission for that particular medicine. This includes medicated nappy creams and teething gels.
Prescription medicines are only given when prescribed for your child by a doctor, dentist, nurse or pharmacist. Medicines containing aspirin are only given if prescribed by a doctor.
Paracetamol-based medicine
The supplied childminding contract requires written instructions for non-prescription and “when required” medicines, including what the medicine is, why it is needed, the dose and when it should be given. We contact you by telephone before giving “when required” medicine. We may decline to administer a medicine where we cannot do so safely.
Paracetamol-based medicine follows these arrangements. [Specific circumstances, maximum doses and timings to be confirmed by MiniMove]
Storage and records
- Medicines must be in their original container, clearly labelled with your child's name. [Storage arrangements to be confirmed]
- We keep a written record each time a medicine is given, including date, time and amount. You will be asked to sign the record, and we tell you the same day, or as soon as reasonably practicable.
Emergency medication
If your child has prescribed emergency medication, such as an inhaler or auto-injector, please tell us about it in the registration form so we can agree a health care plan with you.
